On a Tuesday, Bridgit Mendler made it known that she has established her own satellite data startup known as Northwood. The new enterprise is designed to bring satellite technology to the masses with the production of ground stations on Earth for data retrieval. This innovative approach has stirred considerable interest.
Mendler may be recognized from her time on the Disney Channel, where she starred in popular shows such as “Good Luck Charlie” and “Wizards of Waverly Place”. Her acting career also includes roles in “Nashville” and the comedic movie “Father of the Year.”
Simultaneously, Mendler continued her educational pursuits. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California in 2016, her master’s and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2020 and 2024 correspondingly, and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2024. At Harvard, she was also the co-president of the Space Law Society.
Currently the chief executive officer of Northwood, Mendler partners with her spouse, Griffin Cleverly, the appointed CTO of the company, and Shaurya Luthra, the Head of Software. Together, they aim to create a “data highway between Earth and space.”
Northwood’s team has pinpointed constraints in existing ground station operations and dedicated its resources to mass producing ground stations that would make satellite technology more efficient and universally available. The firm has already drawn the attention of distinguished investors and secured approximately $6.3 million as initial capital.
On a personal note, Mendler also announced that she has expanded her family with the addition of a 4-year-old boy she recently fostered and adopted.
