The 43-year-old, Gisele Bundchen, took to Instagram on Wednesday reminiscing about her deceased mother, Vânia Nonnenmacher, a month after her passing. The figurehead published two poignant shots, one depicting a tender moment with her loving guardian and another showing her mother expressing joy with a rainbow forming a backdrop. Apart from that, she coupled it with a loving caption “Te amo,” which means “I love you” in English.
Vânia sadly passed away because of cancer in January at 75 years old. Gisele first broke her silence about the tragedy when she posted an emotional homage that featured pictures and a caption on Instagram on January 30.
“Dearest mother, knowing that I won’t be able to embrace you anymore is agonizing, but I’m reassured that you’ll continue observing us. You were a celestial being on Earth, with an open heart for all those around you,” she expressed in both Portuguese and English in the memorial post. She also recalled her mother epitomizing “exemplary expressions of love, courage, compassion, bravery, and elegance.”
Before her passing, Vânia worked as a bank clerk before retiring and was taken care of at the Moinhos de Vento Hospital in Porto Alegre, Brazil on January 26. She passed away two days later which was confirmed by the hospital in a statement given to PEOPLE.
In an interview with PEOPLE, four months before her mother’s demise, Gisele talked about the struggle of looking after sick parents. “It’s indeed been a great ordeal for my family. It’s been a lot — in every dimension of my life,” she said. “I suppose it’s like when it rains, it pours. Considering the numerous and unexpected twists and turns that life throws at us, all we can aim to do is to do the best we can under these uncertain circumstances.”
She also split from her longtime spouse, Tom Brady, in 2022, and alluded to the fact that she was pouring all her efforts into healing during this challenging phase of her life earlier this month. She shared a line from an Ecuadorian writer, Yung Pueblo. “Letting go can at times seem overwhelming. Cultivating new habits can feel like a colossal task. Nevertheless, despite all the hurdles, the inner work is worth it. This dynamic expression of self-love can revolutionize your life,” the quote said.
