Miami’s extensive highway redesign endeavor, which is projected to fix the city’s traffic-filled streets eventually, is currently achieving the precise opposite. Miami’s expansive roadway development is causing residents havoc with major road closures anticipated between Sunday and Monday. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) stated that all eastbound I-395 lanes at I-95 would be shut from 10:30 p.m. Sunday to 5:30 a.m. Monday. Also, I-95 off-ramps to I-395 eastbound and the Biscayne Boulevard exit to the MacArthur Causeway will both be closed off. The closures are temporary, enabling a shift of I-395 eastbound traffic to the right past Biscayne Boulevard, which will pave the way for a new construction area. The I-395/SR 836/I-95 Project, amounting to an estimated $840 million, will also shift the eastbound Biscayne Boulevard lane to the left, leading to the MacArthur Causeway. Although completion of the high-impact project is planned for late 2027, many locals are skeptical. The imminent road closures are expected to create severe traffic jams around Overtown, downtown areas, and Miami Beach. Detours are advised for – drivers on eastbound SR 836 moving on to I-395:
• Take the southbound I-95 exit, and exit at the NW 8th Street ramp
• Continue on NW 3rd Court, take a left on NW 5th Street
• Turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to reach the A1A North/Miami Beach ramp
Drivers on northbound I-95 moving to eastbound I-395 should:
• Exit at the NW 2nd Street ramp (Exit 2B)
• Continue on NW 3rd Avenue, take a right on NW 8th Street
• Continue on NW/NE 8th Street
• Turn left on Biscayne Boulevard to reach A1A North/Miami Beach
Drivers on southbound I-95 moving to eastbound I-395 should:
• Keep going south on I-95, exit at the NW 8th Street (Exit 3B)
• Turn left on NW 8th Street, continue on NW 8th Street
• Turn left at Biscayne Boulevard to reach the A1A North/Miami Beach on-ramp
Drivers on Biscayne Boulevard heading to MacArthur Causeway can:
• Go north on Biscayne Boulevard
• Turn right at NW 36th Street to access I-195/Julia Tuttle Causeway
• Continue on I-195/Julia Tuttle Causeway to Alton Road.
