Minecraft players using the PC Xbox App may risk losing their worlds if they don’t follow specific instructions while downloading the latest update. This is due to the changes made by Mojang in expectation of the release of Minecraft 1.21. Key features of the patch include an increase in the health of wolves and the prevention of some softlocks.
However, a serious problem is that the latest patches could potentially delete PC player’s worlds. The developers have confirmed this risk, specifically for those who use the Xbox App for updates. When the App opens the Minecraft launcher, players will see a warning to back up their existing worlds and use the Gaming Services Repair Tool provided in the Xbox App. This can be accessed by selecting the support option from the user’s profile drop menu, which should ideally prevent any potential problems if done before updating.
Instructions on How to Prevent Losing Your Minecraft Worlds on Xbox App:
- Open the Xbox App
- Go to your user Profile
- Select Support in the drop-down menu
- Choose Gaming Services Repair Tool
- Launch Minecraft Launcher and verify your user version
- Back up all existing worlds
Should players fail to update to the latest version, they may be unable to participate in multiplayer games or access Minecraft Realms or featured servers. While the root cause for the bug remains unknown, it seemingly affects only Xbox App users. This group makes up a small portion of players, with many of them accessing Minecraft through an Xbox Game Pass subscription and the rest of the PC community relying on the Microsoft Store.
Mojang’s previous Minecraft updates have not, for the most part, experienced such issues with the Xbox App and it’s very likely they will resolve this quickly.
